Stephen Fleming is set to don the role of head coach of the Southern Brave men's team in the Hundred 2023.

Fleming will replace Mahela Jayawardene, who decided to leave Brave after being elevated to the global head of performance for Mumbai Indians franchises. Apart from IPL, MI have bought teams in SA20 and ILT20, which could have proved to be too hectic for the Sri Lankan.

Under the guidance of Jayawardene, Brave lifted the 2021 Men's hundred title. However, they finished in the seventh slot in the 2022 edition.

Former New Zealand batter Fleming has been the coach of Chennai Super Kings since the IPL 2009 edition. During his stint, CSK won four titles in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

The 49-year-old was due to coach Trent Rockets in the inaugural season but skipped the tournament due to international travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.

According to emerging reports, Fleming has agreed to a deal with Brave, which will be formally announced next week. New Zealand cricketers, Colin de Grandhomme, James Neesham and Trent Boult are expected to be on the radar of Fleming for the Brave in Hundred's draft. All these players have already shown their interest in franchise leagues going forward.

Meanwhile, Welsh Fire have confirmed the departure of their head coach Gary Kirsten. David Saker, an experienced coach is likely to take over the top role of the Fire.
