Indian cricket fans were fuming at wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel as he missed a crucial run-out on Day 5 of The Oval Test against England. With the last wicket to go and an injured Chris Woakes at the other end, Gus Atkinson sprinted for a run off Mohammed Siraj’s final ball of the over, but Jurel missed the hit under pressure.
The fifth and final Test between India and England saw a dramatic end at The Oval. With 35 runs needed to win, England came out to bat with 4 wickets in hand.
However, Mohammed Siraj breathed fire in his opening spell as the old ball was surprisingly generating a lot of movement. He dismissed Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton with two brilliant nip-backers.
Dhruv Jurel Gets Flak For Missed Run Out
Meanwhile, an injured Chris Woakes walked out to bat at no.10 with one hand tucked inside a sling to protect his injured shoulder. Since Woakes couldn’t bat, Gus Atkinson sprinted for a run off Mohammed Siraj’s final ball of the 84th over.
Wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel collected the ball cleanly and quickly attempted a direct throw at the stumps as Chris Woakes dashed through for a bye.
However, the throw missed, allowing England to steal a single. Siraj was visibly frustrated, believing Jurel should have thrown the ball back to him instead of going for the stumps.
Meanwhile, fans on social media were fuming in rage as Jurel put India in jeopardy. England needed only 10-odd runs at that time, and that missed chance could have cost India an opportunity to win the Test and level the series.

That being said, despite Jurel’s miscue, India clinched a victory after Mohammed Siraj clean bowled Atkinson to put a fitting end to what has been one of the most dramatic and highly competitive Test series of recent times. India won by 6 runs and levelled the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
