Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, is reportedly undergoing his rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. The 360-degree cricketer underwent hernia surgery in June in Munich, and there were doubts over his participation in the Asia Cup 2025.
Suryakumar Yadav Getting Ready For Big Assignment As Captain After Surgery
However, now Cricbuzz has reported that he is likely to be available for the tournament, and his presence in NCA or Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a follow-up of his operation. The report further adds that SKY's rehabilitation in NCA was the main reason for his non-selection in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy. It mentions that selectors had inquired about his availability, and the cricketer then informed them about his plans at NCA.
Suryakumar Yadav was last seen in action in the Indian Premier League 2025 where he was the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians. He has been leading India in T20Is since the Sri Lankan tour of 2024, and the team has enjoyed quite a lot of success under his captaincy. The Asia Cup in the UAE will be his first assignment in a multi-nation tournament, and the tournament is scheduled to start on September 9.
Shreyas Iyer Visits NCA Ahead Of Duleep Trophy
The Cricbuzz report further states that Shreyas Iyer also visited the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru last week for fitness tests. The cricketer has been included in the West Zone's squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025, and would feature in the tournament if he is not selected in the Asia Cup squad. Like Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer was also last seen in action in IPL 2025, where he led Punjab Kings to the final of the tournament.
Both Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are currently out of the Test setup. Suryakumar Yadav has played just one Test back in 2023 and is likely to be considered only in the shortest format going ahead, while Shreyas could make his way back in all three formats after his consistent performances in recent times.
