St Lucia Kings rose to the top of the CPL 2024 points table after ravaging Barbados Royals for the second time in two days at Guyana’s Providence Stadium.

BR vs SLK Highlights: Johnson Charles Anchors With Auguste After Faf’s Early Exit

St Lucia Kings skipper Faf du Plessis struggled to get going early in the match as was out stumped courtesy of fellow countrymen Keshav Maharaj and Quinton de Kock. Following his exit, fellow opening batter Johnson Charles anchored the St Lucia Kings innings for the next nine overs along with Ackeem Auguste, who retired himself out at 35.

Charles himself ended top-scoring in the innings with a fluent 53 from 41 balls, glittering his knock with three boundaries and four sixes in the process.

Nyeem Young and Maheesh Theekshana briefly tilted the tide back in Barbados Royals’ favor by picking up the key wickets of Johnson Charles and Roston Chase in quick succession.

Tim Seifert at number five, however, maintained the momentum laid out by Charles by cracking 45 unbeaten runs from just 25 balls on a slow Guyana surface. Seifert’s death-overs special, coupled with David Wiese’s five-ball 11* set up a competitive total of 162-3 from 20 overs for the St Lucia Kings.


BR vs SLK Highlights: Royals Squander Away Concrete Start In Tough Chase

Chasing 163, Barbados Royals raced to 56-0 from just 4.4 overs courtesy of fiery top-order starts from in-form opener Quinton de Kock (22 off 13) and Kadeem Alleyne (47 off 25).

However, the Royals failed to sustain their explosive powerplay assault by losing four wickets within the subsequent five overs. Alzarri Joseph delivered the early breakthrough for the Kings by snapping Quinton’s threatening stay at 56-1. Khary Pierre and Mikkel Govia also chipped in with a wicket each before Noor Ahmad trapped captain Rovman Powell in front as the Royals crashed to 86-4 in 9.4 overs.

Barbados Royals failed to recover from their middle-overs setbacks as 149-8 was all they could conjure by the end of their innings. David Miller made a sluggish 21 until he mistimed one off Noor Ahmad (2-20) towards Faf du Plessis at cover.

David Wiese also picked up two late wickets for the St Lucia Kings to claim figures of 2-17. For his maverick half-century earlier in the day, dynamic opener Johnson Charles bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award as St Lucia Kings rose to the top of the CPL 2024 points table.
