In an exceptional display of skill, Afghanistan batter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a crucial knock in the on-going 3rd ODI between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan face an embarrassing start vs the Proteas men

In a match already marked by setback: the absence of Rashid Khan. The conditions turned even more challenging as Afghanistan were bowled over for 169 runs in just 34 overs, due to the brilliant South African bowling. Chasing first, Afghanistan lost wickets at regular intervals and was in a very tricky spot early on.

Key players like Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi ran themselves out thanks to poor running between the wickets. Much was made of that failure, though new captain Rahmanullah Gurbaz seemed to go some way to redeem the situation, making a promising 89 before he fell to Andile Phehlukwayo in the 28th over.

With eight wickets fallen and a total of 133 runs, Allah Ghazanfar stepped up and made a quick-fire 31 off just 15 balls, inspiring the team towards a more respectable total. However, the team did not receive much help from the tailenders. Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, and Phehlukwayo took two wickets each as South Africa dominated the game, while Bjorn Fortuin took one.

At the time of writing, South Africa are at 45/1.
