Pakistan cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the third match of the Pakistan T20I Tri-Series 2025 at Rawalpindi. And it was possible through a brilliant match-winning knock from Sahibzada Farhan.
Sri Lanka flattered in the first inning to 128, and Pakistan cruised in the below-par chase to register another one-sided victory.
Sri Lanka again fails to put up a competitive total
After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka struggled to build any real momentum. The innings started on a shaky note when Pathum Nissanka was removed for 17 by Abrar Ahmed, caught smartly by Babar Azam.
Although Kamil Mishara tried to inject some pace with a quick 22 off 12 balls, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Kusal Perera played a handy cameo of 25 from 19 balls, while Janith Liyanage was the lone bright spot for the visitors.
Batting with calm and control, Liyanage remained unbeaten on 41 off 38 balls, holding one end together as wickets fell around him. However, Pakistan’s bowlers never let Sri Lanka settle.
Mohammad Nawaz was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with excellent figures of 3/16 in his four overs. His spell completely broke Sri Lanka’s middle order.
Salman Mirza and Faheem Ashraf also chipped in with a wicket each, as Sri Lanka managed to put just 128/7 in the first inning.
Sahibzada Farhan’s blazing 80* helps Pakistan cruise
Pakistan got off to a strong start in their chase of 129. The atmosphere in Rawalpindi came alive as Sahibzada Farhan played a sensational innings, showing both power and timing.
He smashed 80* in 45 balls at a strike rate of 177, including 6 fours and 5 sixes, which made the entire run-chase look easy.
Saim Ayub gave him good support with a brisk 20 off 18 balls before being stumped off Dasun Shanaka.
Babar Azam struggled to find fluency and managed 16 off 22 balls before being dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera. Salman Agha fell for a golden duck, but by then, the damage had already been done.
Farhan kept the scoreboard ticking and found a calm partner in Usman Khan, who stayed unbeaten on 5. Pakistan comfortably reached the target in 15.3 overs, finishing at 131/3 and sealing the match with plenty of overs to spare.
With that 7-wicket victory, Pakistan are at the top of the table with two wins in as many games. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, suffered their second straight loss of the Tri-Series and dropped to the bottom with zero points.
