A horrifying Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season for Brisbane Heat came to an end on Saturday, December 06, as the Perth Scorchers punched the final blow with a 7-wicket win at the W.A.C.A and finished at number 2, with 12 points to their name, while Heat crashed out of the competition from the bottom of the barrel.

Scorchers end Heat's embarrassing WBBL 2025 season winless

The Charli Knot-led Heat came into the final match of their group stage, already knocked out of the tournament, registering no wins to their name, while one of the matches against the Sydney Sixers ended in a no-result. On the other hand, the fifth-placed Scorchers needed a win to jump to number 2, despite having a negative net run-rate.

While batting first upon winning the toss, Heat lost captain Knot for a duck in the first over, followed by the other opener, Lucinda Bourke and were reduced to 6/2 in 1/5 overs. The middle order, led by the wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne's 57(47) and a late cameo of 24(9) from Annie O'Neil, kept them in the match with 164/7 on the board. Lully Mills was Perth's pick of the bowlers with 2/23 in 4 overs.

In response, opener and star batter Beth Mooney batted the Heat out of the match single-handedly and got 94*(61) with 12 fours to her name. Maddy Darke (24) was the only other batter with a 20+ score for them as they chased down 165 in 19.2 overs and 7 wickets. Sarah Glenn took 2/46 (4) as the Heat's best bowler on the night.

Brisbane Heat registers the worst-ever WBBL season

With zero wins in 10 matches and only 1 point to their name, Brisbane Heat became the first team to finish a WBBL season without a single win. Previously, the record for the worst finish was 4 points (2 wins). Hobart Hurricanes (2017/18 and 2018/19), Melbourne Stars (2019) and Melbourne Renegades held the record.

Hurricanes comfortably sit at the top of the table, booking their place in the final of the current season. The match between the Sixers and Adelaide Strikers to be played and it will determine the final standings and the knockout opponents for each of the qualified teams. The knockouts will be played from December 9 to 13.
