The Rangpur Riders juggernaut rolled on as the Nurul Hasan-led franchise registered its eighth win in a row this BPL 2024-25 season. Going up against Chittagong Kings in match 24 of the competition, Khushdil Shah and Akif Javed played starring roles with the bat and ball respectively at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Riders vs Kings Highlights: Steven Taylor Anchors As Riders Top-Order Crumble

Rangpur Riders opener Tawfique Khan exhausted 10 deliveries to score just five at the top of the order before the 33-year-old was toppled by Al Islam. Khan’s opening partner Steven Taylor anchored on by sharing a calculated 54-run partnership with Saif Hassan to take the Riders past the 50-run mark without further casualty.

Just as Taylor and Hassan were beginning to pick up the run-scoring pace, both cricketers were done in by Naeem Islam (1-4) and Al Islam (2-28) respectively in quick succession. In-form Iftikhar Ahmed also made his way back to the dugout for just three to Arafat Sunny as the Rangpur Riders slipped from 63-1 to 69-4 around the halfway stage of the innings.

Khushdil Shah at number five took the attack to Chittagong Kings to set up a competitive total for the Rangpur Riders. Shah smeared two boundaries and seven sixes in his 28-ball 59, and shared swift partnerships with captain Nurul Hasan and Mahedi Hasan (17 off 12) before falling to Mohammad Wasim.

Wasim also trapped Nurul in the slog overs to claim figures of 2-42, as the Riders reached 164-7 by the completion of their innings.

Rakibul Hasan made instant impact for the Rangpur Riders by cleaning up Chittagong Kings opener Usman Khan for a first-ball duck. Khan’s opening partner Parvez Hossain Emon rectified Chittagong’s faltering start with a surge of powerplay boundaries, racing to 26* from 13 deliveries and steering his team to 45-1 in the first five overs of the innings.

Riders vs Kings Highlights: Akif Javed Runs Through Kings Middle Order

Rangpur Riders’ Pakistan-based speedster Akif Javed halted Chittagong Kings’ top-order momentum with three quick wickets, including that of a well-set Parvez Hossain Emon and captain Mohammad Mithun. Javed’s three-wicket burst reduced the Kings from 45-1 to 53-4 in the space of just two overs.

Fellow Pakistan imports Iftikhar Ahmed (1-22) and Khushdil Shah (2-23) collectively claimed three wickets in the innings, while Javed picked up his fourth in the form of Mohammad Wasim to finish with figures of 4-32. The Chittagong Kings conjured just 131-8 from their 20 overs to fall 33 runs short of the unbeaten and BPL 2024-25 table toppers Rangpur Riders.
