Chittagong Kings crushed Sylhet Strikers in match number 40 of the BPL 2024-25 season at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Khawaja Nafay and winning captain Mohammad Mithun started off the match with blistering half-centuries before four-wicket hauls from Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed flatlined Sylhet Strikers’ response in the run-chase.

Batting first, Chittagong Kings lost opener Parvez Hossain Emon for just a single to Sylhet Strikers’ fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib within the first over of the match. Hasan also removed number three batter Graham Clark later in the powerplay as the Kings fell to 17-2 in less than three overs.

Khawaja Nafay counterattacked for the Kings with a sublime six-hitting spree alongside captain and number four batter Mohammad Mithun. The two cricketers clubbed blistering half-centuries, with Nafay launching one boundary and five sixes in his enterprising 30-ball 52 before falling to Samiullah Shinwari at 111 in the 11th over of the match.

Shinwari (2-36) also dismissed Haider Ali for just nine, while captain Mithun made his way back to the dugout after cracking 38-ball 52 to hand Tanzim Hasan Sakib (3-37) his third wicket of the high-scoring innings.

Shamim Hossain sustained the top-order momentum by clattering 38 runs from just 23 deliveries in the backend of the Chittagong Kings innings. Launching four boundaries and two sixes in the process, Hossain’s sizzling cameo, and Khaled Ahmed’s unbeaten 13-ball 25* elevated the Chittagong Kings to a competitive 196-8 from 20 overs.

For the Sylhet Strikers, fast bowler Ruyel Miah picked up two wickets in the final over to finish with 2-42.

Chittagong Kings fast bowler Shoriful Islam started off by knocking over both Sylhet Strikers openers, Zawad Abrar and Rony Talukdar early in the innings within the opening powerplay. Fellow speedster Khaled Ahmed also got the prized scalp of Strikers’ number three Zakir Hasan.

The Strikers never recovered from their sluggish powerplay start of 39-3, with Rahatul Ferdous getting rid of Aaron Jones just a couple of overs later in the run-chase.

Shoriful and Khaled Ahmed collectively mopped up the remaining Strikers wickets on offer, with the former claiming astonishing figures of 4-5 in 3.2 overs. Khaled rattled the Strikers’ tail to pick up a four-wicket haul on his own as the two speedsters compounded Chittagong Kings’ huge 96-run win.

The outcome marked the seventh straight defeat for the Sylhet Strikers this BPL 2024-25 season as they finished the tournament at the bottom of the points table.
