In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the men's player rankings on Wednesday afternoon. While Shubman Gill retained the number one spot in the batters' rankings, several players from Australia and South Africa made notable gains.
Gill Ranked Above Babar; Travis Head Progresses In Batters' Chart
Prominent Indian batter Shubman Gill still claims the first position in the ICC ODI rankings for batters. Gill has 784 rating points under his belt, while the second-placed Rohit Sharma and third-placed Babar Azam have 756 and 739 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, swashbuckling Australian batter Travis Head moved one place up to eleventh following his magnificent century in the final ODI against South Africa.
On a similar note, Cameron Green, who hammered the second fastest ODI century for Australia in the same match, progressed 40 spots to finish the week as the 78th-ranked batter on the list. Josh Inglis also gained 23 places, moving to 64th position, courtesy of his consistent returns in the South Africa series.
Theekshana Joins Maharaj At Top; Ngidi, Ellis and Abbott Move Up
Talking about the bowlers, Keshav Maharaj lost crucial rating points following his modest outing in the third ODI against Australia, where he bagged a single wicket for 57 runs. The decrement in the South African spinner's rating points proved to be a blessing for Maheesh Theekshana, who joined him as the top-ranked ODI bowler with 671 points.
On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi, who scripted South Africa's ODI series win Down Under with a clinical five-wicket haul in the second game, moved six places to the 28th position. The Australian duo of Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis also made notable gains, claiming 48th and 65th place, respectively.
