Scorchers aim to round off league stage with a win [X.com]

Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are in for probably their most important tussle of the league stage for BBL 2023-24 in Perth on Tuesday (January 16). With a higher standing in the points table and thus a more secure chance to sneak past the playoffs at stakes, the Scorchers host the Sixers at the Perth Stadium. 

If they win, the Scorchers will set up the first qualifying match with numero uno side Brisbane Heat in Canberra on the back of six victories and a second-place finish. However, a defeat, especially a big one, will see the Sixers pip them through to face their Brisbane counterparts on Friday (January 19).

If ever Scorchers needed a significant boost to their confidence and overall chances, they earned one via a massive win over the more-fancied Heat in their repeat clash of the season. The defending champions hammered the top side by 35 runs and would've gained a great deal out of it. 

Their lower-order middle-order duo of Cooper Connolly (35) and Nick Hobson (48*) propelled the Scorchers to a fighting 163/6 in 20 overs before terrific spells from Andrew Tye (4/14) and Lance Morris (3/26) dismissed the Heat for just 128. 

Scorchers will most probably retain their playing XI for this game even as they signed Marcus Harris for the business end of the competition. The most successful BBL club will be determined to pull off another comprehensive win.

Sydney Sixers 

Sydney Sixers have won five of their nine games [X.com]

The Sixers are coming on the back of a handsome win in the 'Sydney Smash' clash with the Thunder at the SCG, which gave them their fifth win of the tournament and kept them in the race to bag one of the top two slots on the points table. 

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Phillippe (47) and Jordan Silk (35) produced the goods with the bat in the first half and took the Sixers to a competitive 151/7 on another dry surface at their home venue. 

Then, once again, left-arm spinner Kerry O'Keefe emerged as their stand-out performer with the ball and bagged figures of 3 for 13 off his four overs. Ben Dwarshius, with figures of 1/17 off 4 overs, was another one who offered the Thunder batters no respite and helped immensely with the win.
