The U19 Asia Cup tournament saw the Bangladesh U19 team emerge as the unbeaten Group B champions as they routed Sri Lanka by 39 runs in their final group-stage match on Wednesday.

With three straight wins, Bangladesh U19 will now face Group A runners-up Pakistan in the semi-final, while Sri Lanka, too, despite the loss, will be locking horns with Group A champions India.

Let’s take a look at how the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka U19 clash panned out as the former defended a modest total of 225 runs on board.

Bangladesh stumble early to post sub-par total on board

After losing the toss, Bangladesh came out to bat in the 50-over contest. They had a decent start as the openers guarded the wickets till the 13th over, before Zawad Abrar was dismissed by Rasith Nimsara.

Zawad scored a decent 49 runs alongside Rifat Beg to stitch an 84-run partnership. Notably, that was the biggest partnership for Bangladesh in the match as Azizul Hakim and Kalam Aleen scored 53 as a duo to stabilise the middle order.

However, after Rizwan Hussain’s dismissal in the 30th over, rest of the order tattered, with players heading back to the pavilion for single-digit scores.

The tail-end was also exposed early as Bangladesh could only manage a total of 225 runs on the board inside 46.3 overs.

From Sri Lanka’s side, Kavija Gamage was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Viran and Rasith Nimsara scalped two wickets each.

Sri Lanka falter miserably in a scanty run chase

In response, as Sri Lanka’s batters came into the chase, Iqbal Emmon and Samiun Basir Ratul cracked open the batting order from the seventh over.

Sri Lanka lost three wickets inside 14 overs and were at 84/5 after 27 overs. The only high scores came from Chamika Heenatigala, who scored 41 runs, and Aadham Hilmy, who made 39.

In an attempt to chase the modest total, Sri Lanka couldn’t even cross the 190-run mark and were bundled out for 186 runs inside 49.1 overs. Emmon and Shahriar Ahmed both took three wickets each, while skipper Azizul Hakim also bagged one alongside Saad Islam Rajin.
