The Pakistan cricket team crashed to a precarious 66-5 at the halfway stage of the innings against Bangladesh in the first T20I of the series in Mirpur. Currently in Bangladesh for a three-match series without the services of premier batter and former captain Babar Azam, the Agha Salman-led ‘Men in Green’ drew the ire of a legion of Pakistani fans on social media.

While several of those fans pointed out Babar Azam’s absence as a glaring void in the struggling batting lineup, others straight up called out captain Salman’s controversial statement from earlier this year where the all-rounder emphasised the need of employing an “aggressive” brand of cricket.

Babar Azam Fans Hold Team Accountable For BAN Debacle

Batting first against Bangladesh in Mirpur in the series-opening first T20I match on Sunday, July 20; Pakistan team lost four wickets inside the powerplay to reach 41-4 from six overs. The ‘Men in Green’ eventually slipped further down to 70-6 in nearly 12 overs, with senior opener Fakhar Zaman himself chipping in with 44 off 34 balls.

Hasan Nawaz, who was touted as Babar Azam’s virtual replacement in the Pakistan T20I batting order, was dismissed for a four-ball duck to Mustafizur Rahman. Pakistan’s latest debacle sparked a widespread outrage, especially from the Babar Azam fan community, considering the seasoned batter was excluded from the national line-up for the series.
