Babar Azam had a forgettable return to T20Is as the Pakistan mainstay departed for a two-ball duck against South Africa. Led by Agha Salman, Pakistan faced South Africa in the first T20I of the three-match series at home on Tuesday. The cracking face-off at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium saw Babar Azam's T20I comeback, which ended on a rough note. The talismanic batter was dismissed for a duck and joined Shahid Afridi on the list of Pakistan batters with the most ducks in T20I cricket.
Most T20I ducks for Pakistan: Babar Azam equals Shahid Afridi's record
Babar Azam's duck in the first T20I against South Africa marked the eighth time the batter departed without opening his account. Interestingly, legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi also has eight T20I ducks to his name. So, as Babar was dismissed by Corbin Bosch in Rawalpindi, he equalled Shahid Afridi's tally, joining him on the list of Pakistan batters with the most ducks in T20I cricket.
Babar Azam has taken 122 innings to record eight T20I ducks, while Shahid Afridi was quicker than him to attain the shambolic feat in 90 innings. It's worth noting that Indian great Virat Kohli has seven ducks to his name in T20Is; so, Babar Azam effectively went past him on the list.
As Babar continues to earn backlash for his poor outing in the first T20I, here we list ten batters with the most ducks for Pakistan in T20I cricket.
- Umar Akmal - 10
- Saim Ayub - 9
- Babar Azam - 8
- Shahid Afridi - 8
- Kamran Akmal - 7
- Mohammad Hafeez - 7
- Faheem Ashraf - 6
- Fakhar Zaman - 6
- Imad Wasim - 6
- Mohammad Nawaz - 6
While Babar Azam failed to open his account, skipper Agha Salman extended his lean patch in T20Is, being dismissed for two runs. Pakistan's collective batting failure persisted amid valuable knocks from Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz, as the visitors crushed them by fifty-five runs to win the first T20I and take a crucial 1-0 lead in the series.
