Once again, the fourth Ashes 2023 Test at Old Trafford, Manchester witnessed Australian opener David Warner's recurring struggle to convert his promising stats.

Warner failed to capitalize on another promising start

The southpaw’s tendency to lose his wicket prematurely was on display as he departed cheaply on Day 3, leaving the Australian team on shaky grounds.

Warner set off with a promising start, scoring a sturdy 28 runs from 52 balls with three fours. However, falling into a pattern seen throughout this series, he failed to capitalise on the strong start. The stage was set for a big score, but the left-handed batsman's innings came to an abrupt end courtesy of a clever delivery by England pacer, Chris Woakes.

The right-arm quick bowled a length ball placed just outside off, posing a dilemma for Warner. Caught in two minds, Warner's initial thought was to leave the ball, but in a last-minute shift, he attempted to play it.

This indecisiveness turned out to be fatal as he was caught in a limbo, unable to fully commit to either action, resulting in a thick inside edge that led to the ball crashing into his stumps.

Earlier in the day, the English batters put on of power-hitting spectacle as they amassed a massive lead of 275 after being bowled out for 592. The huge total was driven by Zak Crawley's splendid 189 complemented by half-centuries from Moeen Ali (54), skipper Joe Root (84), Harry Brook (61), Ben Stokes (51), and an unbeaten 99 by Jonny Bairstow.

In response, the Australians' response got off to a rocky start with the loss of Usman Khawaja, who added just 18 to the scoreboard before Mark Wood lured him into an edge, caught deftly by Bairstow. Warner followed his partner and the situation worsened as the pillar of the Australian batting line-up, Steve Smith, also fell to Wood's bowling for just 17 runs.

With Marnus Labuschagne on the field holding firm at 33, and Travis Head just starting his innings, the Australians are confronted by a colossal deficit of 178 runs. Facing a relentless English bowling attack, it will demand a herculean display from the Australians to overturn the deficit.
