Former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Virat Kohli, who is playing his 500th international match, and attributed his success to four crucial aspects – the Four D's: Discipline, Determination, Dedication, and Driving.

Aakash Chopra hails Virat Kohli after 87* vs West Indies

During the second Test match in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Thursday, Kohli put on a batting masterclass with an unbeaten 87 off 161 deliveries as India concluded the day at 288/4.

Expressing his thoughts on his YouTube channel, Chopra commended Kohli for becoming the first player to score a half-century in his 500th match. He emphasized that when a cricketer reaches such a milestone, discipline becomes paramount, and it is this discipline that has allowed Kohli to reign over world cricket as a batting great.

“When someone plays 500 games, what are the most important things for him? The biggest thing is discipline. This player reigns because of discipline,” said Chopra.

The cricket analyst further lauded Kohli's absolute determination and dedication in his innings against West Indies. He acknowledged that the former Indian captain adhered firmly to the three D's – 'Discipline, Determination, and Dedication' – which have been the foundations of his success throughout his career.

"We saw the same thing in the innings he is playing now. Absolute determination, dedication and discipline, he has held on strongly to the 3 Ds,” added the erstwhile opener.

Chopra highlighted the fact that despite it being Kohli's 500th match, he didn't rush to score runs and took his time. The right-hander took his time and opened his account only on the 21st delivery he faced, avoiding any unnecessary risks or haste.

The renowned commentator also stated the fourth 'D,' which sets Kohli apart from other players is his 'driving'. He added that despite being a slightly bottom-handed player from a young age, Kohli has developed a distinctive ability to drive the ball beautifully.

"After that his driving, that is another 'D', which is beautiful. He has been a slightly bottom-handed player right from his childhood and such a player doesn't drive that well through the cover region but his driving makes him extremely special,” concluded Chopra.

Kohli, will be eying his 29th Test century, and could potentially become the first player to score a century in their 500th international game.
