Turning into shambles, the first Test at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane turned out to be a hell for the batters as 34 wickets fell within two days. The match ended in Australia's favour who reached home with six wickets to spare.

The visitors were bowled out for 152 and 99, respectively in their two innings causing absolute chaos within the camp. After the defeat, Proteas skipper Dean Elgar held a no-holds-barred approach and openly criticised the uneven Gabba pitch that he felt was unsuitable to bat.

The opener clearly called the game as an 'unfair contest' between bat and ball, adding that it was a 'one-sided affair'. Elgar's disappointment is coming on the back of his side losing crucial points in the World Test Championship table along with their second position.

Moreover, he was of the view that a Test cricket game should atleast go till fourth or fifth day which is necessary for the format to thrive.

"If you were a bowler, you were licking your lips. It was challenging for the batters, no doubt, which is okay if there's a good contest between bat and ball. On the flip side, I don't see it as a fair contest,

"34 wickets in two days, a pretty one-sided affair, that leads into what everyone is thinking. I'm a purist, I want to see the game go to four or five days and the way, the nature of it, and how it played with some seriously steep bounce with the old ball, you are on a hiding to nothing as a batting unit."

Australia and South Africa will next meet at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Stadium in the boxing day Test to be played from 26th December.
