KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja saved Team India from a certain batting collapse on Day 4 of the Brisbane Test against Australia. Later on the rain-affected day, number 11 batter Akash Deep helped the visitors avoid a follow-on.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Brisbane:

AUS vs IND Highlights: Rohit Sharma Toppled Early By Pat Cummins

With India resuming the innings at 51-4 on Day 4, overnight batter and captain Rohit Sharma failed to lead his team to recovery as he registered another batting failure on his Australian tour.

Batting at number six, the cricketer struck just two boundaries in his sluggish 27-ball stay at the crease to score mere 10 runs before an attempted drive off Pat Cummins handed Alex Carey the simplest of catches at 74-5.

AUS vs IND Highlights: KL Rahul, Jadeja Steady India With Defiant 50s

Indian opener KL Rahul brought up his 17th Test half-century within the opening hour of play. After the early dismissal of captain Rohit Sharma, Rahul steadied the Indian innings by forging 67 fighting runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket. The Indian opener cracked 84 runs in all from 139 balls with eight regal boundaries before his resistance was halted by Australian spinner Nathan Lyon at 141-6.

Jadeja sustained India’s newfound momentum by forming a fresh 53-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy to take his team to the brink of the 200-run total. The legendary all-rounder unleashed 77 runs with seven boundaries and a six, and his twin partnerships with Rahul and Reddy (16 off 61) rescued Team India from a dramatic batting collapse.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Akash Deep’s Late Hitting Avoids Follow-On For India

Pat Cummins strengthened Australia’s advantage by preventing late Indian flourish with the key wickets of half-centurion Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy in quick succession.

Mitchell Starc picked up his third wicket of the innings in the form of Mohammed Siraj as Team India crashed to 213-9.

At the brink of being vulnerable to a certain follow-on call-up, number 11 Akash Deep induced some lusty late hitting alongside fellow tailender Jasprit Bumrah to extend India’s total beyond 250 before stumps. Deep cracked two boundaries and a six in his unbeaten 27* from 31 balls while Bumrah listed 10* during their unbroken 39-run stand.

With constant rains limiting Day 4 action to just 58 overs, Team India will resume its first innings on Day 5 at 252-9 to find themselves another 193 runs away from the hosts.
