Mumbai Indians are the five-time IPL winners and have always been pretty solid in their auction strategy. They had a poor 2024 season where they finished last on the points table, and so there was a lot of pressure on the management to dish out a solid auction strategy for the mega auction.

The Mumbai-based franchise did manage to carve out a balanced team in the auction with match-winners in almost all departments. They tried to boost their bowling attack by buying some big Indian and overseas names and are expected to make an impact in the upcoming season.

However, some of their players have not been able to live upto their billing after the IPL auction, and let's see who are the three big names in that list.

Rohit Sharma

The former Mumbai Indians skipper has retired from T20Is, but is still playing ODI and Test cricket. The man was in great form before the auction in white-ball cricket and was one of the retained players for MI. However, after auction, Rohit has struggled big time in Test cricket. He has looked all at sea against the moving ball, and has scored just 19 runs in three innings in Australia.

He also failed in a practice game and there are some intense calls for his retirement which is bound to hurt his confidence as well. Though the format and conditions in IPL would be completely different, the failures in the purest format could disturb his game in the white-ball matches and it might hurt MI in IPL 2025.

Trent Boult

The Kiwi speedster was bagged by Mumbai Indians with a hope that he can recreate the magic of IPL 2020. He did well in the last few seasons for Rajasthan Royals as well, but he is now 35 years old and it has brought some inconsistency in his game.

After the IPL Auction, Boult has played four T10 games for Northern Warriors, and has gone wicketless in three of those games. He bowled well in the one game where he picked two wickets, but was expensive too in the rest of the games, and it would be a slight cause of worry for MI fans.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is another experienced bowler who will be playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. He is known for his Powerplay bowling and has done well for India and CSK in the past, but injuries have haunted his progress over the years and has affected his bowling too.

In the six matches of SMAT 2024, Chahar has picked just six wickets. One of those game was played before the IPL Auction while rest of the matches were played from the second day of the auction and Chahar picked just four wickets in those five encounters. He was expensive too and MI would need him to iron out his flaws ahead of IPL 2025 as he is likely to partner Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult in MI's starting XI.
