India commanded yet another day in the ongoing second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, where they displayed much more brilliance with both bat and ball, courtesy of skipper Shubman Gill. India declared after setting up a mammoth target of 608 before England lost three wickets by the end of the day.

Here, we take a look at the highlights of Day 4 of the second Test match, as it panned out at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, July 5.

Shubman Gill Smacks Yet Another Ton As India Declare After Setting England A Target of 608

By the end of the third day, India were already leading by 244 runs, with KL Rahul and Karun Nair at the crease. Nair had some trouble facing Brydon Carse, who later got his wicket for 26, while Rahul continued his merry ways and scored a brilliant 55 before being knocked over by Josh Tongue.

However, the more troubling moment for England came when skipper Shubman Gill alongside big hitter Rishabh Pant, stitched yet another magnificent partnership for the fourth wicket, putting up 110 runs between them, where Pant departed after scoring a brisk 65, while Gill, who was joined later by Ravindra Jadeja, continued to punish England further.

Jadeja scored a 69* in the end, while Shubman Gill was fantastic with the bat, scoring runs after runs, as he smashed yet another century, to be precise, 161 off 162 deliveries with 13 boundaries and eight sixes, as he rewrote history with his fluent strokeplay, punishing England with yet another ton to his name.

Even after Gill departed, India continued to bat, frustrating England further until the moment skipper Gill pulled the plug, as India declared after putting up 427 on the board for the loss of six wickets after 83 overs, setting England a gigantic target of 608 runs to chase with more than a day's play left.

Akash Deep, Siraj Combine To Trouble England Further As Three Wickets Down Already

Chasing a target as daunting as 608, England were already under pressure, and Mohammad Siraj made them worry further as he got opener Zak Crawley for a seven-ball duck, as England lost their first wicket in the second over with just 11 on the board. Later, Ben Duckett and Joe Root were both victims of Akash Deep's precise bowling as England were later reduced to 50/3 inside 11 overs with more than 550 runs required for victory.

Akash was brilliant with the ball, as he dismantled both outstanding players, putting England further behind in this encounter. After Root's departure, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook took the responsibility and batted till the end of the day. By the end of the 16th over, England had 72 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets, with 536 more required for victory on the final day, when stumps were called.
