India's new Test era under Shubman Gill began with a loss at Headingley, but the batting group has done quite well so far. India scored 471 and 364 in the two innings of the first Test, and now at Edgbaston, they have created history by scoring a total of 1014 runs.

This is the first time India have managed to score over 1000 runs in a Test match. Their previous best was in the Sydney Test in January 2004 when they managed a match aggregate of 916 runs against Australia.

In the Edgbaston Test, India scored 587 runs in the first innings and 427 in the second. Overall, they played just 1404 balls in the match and scored their runs at a run-rate of 4.33. Also, India lost just 16 wickets, which shows the dominance of their batting group.

It was India's captain who led from the front and scored 269 and 161 runs in the first and second innings respectively, to take India forward. Interestingly, three of India's top five aggregate scores in Test cricket have come against England.

The third highest match aggregate for India is against Pakistan when they scored a total of 910 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2007.  The match aggregates of 875 and 848 have been against England in Rajkot and Nottingham, respectively.

List Of Most Runs Scored By India In A Test

  • 1014 - England v India, Birmingham, 2025
  • 916 - Australia v India, Sydney, 2004
  • 910 - India v Pakistan, Bengaluru, 2007
  • 875 - India v England, Rajkot, 2024
  • 848 - England v India, Nottingham, 2014

However, India managed to win only the game in Rajkot, while the games in Bengaluru, Nottingham and Sydney ended in a draw. Thus, Shubman Gill and co would be looking to make this highest-ever score a memorable one and win the game to level the five-match series.
