The Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 league stage match between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers witnessed runs galore as 500-plus runs were scored, and Heat managed to win a historic match as the team from Brisbane went on to chase down 258 runs to stun the Scorchers.

In a chase that required aggressive batting right from ball one, Matt Renshaw and Jack Wildermuth produced stunning centuries to shock the opposition and win the record-breaking BBL clash. The Heat’s magnificent victory ensured that several BBL records were shattered as the Brisbane-based team produced a stunning assault to do the unthinkable.

Here is all the BBL records shattered by the Heat as they chase down a mammoth total at the Gabba.

1) First instance of two batters scoring T20 centuries in a chase

Both Matt Renshaw and Wildermuth played the innings of their life to score breathtaking centuries. While Renshaw slammed 102 off 51 balls, Wildermuth hammered an unbeaten 110 off 54 balls to produce a miraculous win for the Heat. Interestingly, this was the first time in T20 history that two batters have scored hundreds while chasing a total.

2) Third highest successful run-chase in T20 history

Heat chased down 258 in the last over of the match, and with that, the team created history as they went on to chase the third-highest successful score in T20 history. IPL side, Punjab Kings has the honour as they sit at the top of the list (262/2 vs KKR) in IPL 2024, while South Africa occupy the second spot (259/4) vs West Indies.

Now, after chasing down 258, Brisbane Heat makes the cut as the team with the third-highest successful chase.

3) Highest Partnerships for any Wickets in BBL

The pair of Wildermuth and Renshaw added 212 runs for the second wicket, as the pair racked up their respective hundreds, and in the process, they registered the highest partnership for any wicket in BBL history. Previously, the record was held by Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright when they smashed 207 runs for the opening wicket in 2020.

4) Highest successful run-chases in BBL

The Heat also registered the highest successful run-chase in BBL history as they created history on Friday at the Gabba.
