Days after making a surprise return to the Indian team as the third opener and backup wicketkeeper, courtesy of leading Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph, Ishan Kishan has carried his explosive form into List A cricket, as they faced Karnataka in their first match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 in Ahmedabad.
Leading his team from the front, while at number 6, the southpaw scored a 33-ball-ton, which is the 2nd fastest List A century for an Indian. He eventually went on to finish with 125 (39), with 7 fours and a whopping 14 sixes, showing his range of hitting, as he targeted every corner of the ground to guide Jharkhand to 412/9 in 50 overs. Here's how fans reacted to the explosive knock.
"Peak of his power...": Fans show delight for Ishan Kishan's record-breaking ton vs Karnataka
Revisiting his SMAT exploits, top-scoring with 517 runs at a strike rate of 197.32 and following it up with a great start to the VHT, some believe he has justified his return to replace Jitesh Sharma in the T20 World Cup squad.
"Jitesh Sharma hasn’t done anything wrong, but Ishan Kishan have done something extraordinary to earn his place in the T20I squad," wrote @IdliHaterrr.
Some others also fear for Sanju Samson's opening position for the T20 mega-event, expressing shock with Ishan's form.
"Ishan Kishan jo dream run pe chal raha hai kahi ye aate sath Sanju ki jagah na kha jaye," said @ankmehta45
Citing the 300+ strike rate against a good opposition at number 6, a fan felt SRH are on the verge of breaching the 300-run mark in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
"Ishan Kishan 100 off just 33 balls at a strike rate over 300 while coming in to bat at 6 in VHT. SRH are 100% breaching 300 this season," @internetumpire said.

"Ishan Kishan will be the first choice keeper batter for ODIs for coming years and will keep playing for India for long long time will become legend in international cricket with legendary records in his name," said @DarkKnight07_23
Jharkhand is named in Group A of the Vijay Hazare Trophy alongside some good teams like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh among others and have a good chance of succeeding under the 27-year-old, having done well in the SMAT.
