India's explosive batter Abhishek Sharma had a memorable outing with the bat, as he slammed a belligerent knock in Punjab's ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Saurashtra in Ahmedabad. Opening the innings for Punjab, Abhishek hammered 170 runs off just 96 deliveries, setting the foundation for his team's mammoth score on a batting-friendly deck. 

Abhishek Sharma's Fireworks Propel Punjab To A Huge Total

Saurashtra's decision to bowl first after winning the toss backfired on the hosts, as Punjab's swashbuckling openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh smashed their bowlers to all parts of the ground. The famed domestic side couldn't draw the first blood until the 31st over when Prabhsimran finally perished after going all guns blazing for his breathtaking century. 

However, despite losing his opening partner, Abhishek Sharma continued his onslaught on the home team. The southpaw struck 22 glorious boundaries and eight massive sixes en route to an enthralling 96-ball 170 that left Saurashtra reeling at the halfway mark. 

His tremendous knock, which came with a strike rate of 177.08, was finally concluded by Pranav Karia, who emerged as Saurashtra's wrecker-in-chief with the ball with four wickets. However, despite his bowling heroics, Punjab managed a whopping score of 424 runs, the joint-fifth-highest team total in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

Abhishek Sharma Auditions For England T20Is Selection

Abhishek, who is leading Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, slammed 66 runs off just 54 balls in the last game against Mumbai. He has peaked at the right time, putting his name forward for selection in India's squad for the England T20Is.
