India's legendary batter Virat Kohli had a forgettable year, as his performance dipped significantly in 2024. Regarded as India's greatest batter of the generation, Kohli finished 2024 with extremely poor numbers, letting India down with his prolonged inconsistent run in international cricket.

India's prominent batter Virat Kohli had a decent start to 2024, as he struck a valuable 46-run knock on his very first outing of the year in a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town. However, he followed it up with a string of low scores and did nothing significant apart from a 70-odd against New Zealand and a century at Perth Stadium in the first BGT Test. Overall, he ended the year 2024 with 655 runs at a horrendous average of 21.83, even worse than the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

Virat Kohli Records Worse Year Than Babar; Not Among Top 50 Batters Of 2024

Virat Kohli's poor form massively jolted his stature in international cricket. The talismanic batter, who played a memorable knock in the 2024 T20 World Cup final after failing in several matches, including the semifinal, couldn't find a place among the top 50 run-getters of 2024. For the unversed, Sri Lanka's Dinesh Chandimal is the 50th best batter of 2024 with 724 runs at an average of 42.58.

In fact, Kohli had a worse year than Pakistan's Babar Azam, who slammed 513 runs more than him at a better average in seven more international innings. Statistically, Babar, despite struggling with his form in Tests, finished the year with 1168 runs at an average of 32.44 and a strike rate of 91.75. He even slammed nine half-centuries as compared to only three fifty-plus scores by Kohli.

Will SCG Affair Be Virat Kohli's Final Hurrah In Tests?

Hailed for his genius batsmanship and astute leadership, Virat Kohli has been nothing short of a disappointment for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australians have exploited his weakness outside the off-stump, making India pay for his rough patch. So, if the veteran cricketer is under immense pressure and could be left out of India's Test side if he doesn't turn things around in the Sydney Test.
