Smriti Mandhana failed to get India off to a cracking start against Australia Women in the second semifinal of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai. Chasing 339 runs for a spot in the final, Mandhana listed a couple of confident boundaries to reach a run-a-ball 24, but the senior opener was eventually dismissed by Kim Garth as India slipped to 59-2 in 9.2 overs.

Notably, Mandhana’s latest batting failure sustained her lackluster record in ICC knockout fixtures, prompting fans to take note and slam the Indian vice-captain for her inability in overcoming high-pressure matches.

Smriti Mandhana endured yet another batting failure on a big day, this time against Australia in the second semifinal of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. Shortly after her dismissal to Kim Garth, a legion of Indian cricket fans took to X and trolled the seasoned opening batter for her lackluster record in knockout games.

Smriti Mandhana wicket controversy

The manner of Smriti Mandhana’s dismissal also stirred up a huge controversy in the Indian innings. While the ball was initially called a wide by the umpires, a television review from Australia indicated the faintest of edges down the leg side, as confirmed by the UltraEdge. The umpires reversed their decision as India slipped to 59-2 inside the first 10 overs.

Smriti Mandhana, however, was visibly distraught over the close call while she was walking back to the sheds.
