South Africa cricket team schedule (Source: AFP)
As 2026 begins, the South Africa cricket team will be looking to carry forward the confidence and momentum gained from a memorable 2025 season. The Proteas enjoyed one of the best years in their Test history by winning the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) for the first time.
With international cricket set to keep all cricketing nations busy, South Africa will feature regularly at home and abroad. The year includes bilateral series, a major ICC tournament, and marquee contests against top teams such as India, Australia, England, and New Zealand.
Looking back at SA's historic performance in 2025
South Africa enters 2026 on the back of a historic Test campaign. In June 2025, the Proteas defeated Australia at Lord’s to lift the ICC World Test Championship title, the first in the nation’s history.
One of the standout achievements came in November–December 2025, when South Africa secured a 2–0 Test series win in India, their first series victory there in 25 years.
However, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India defeated South Africa at the semi-final stage. The inconsistent white-ball results eventually led to the resignation of the team’s coach, making 2026 a year of rebuilding in shorter formats.
Having said this, in this article, let's take a look at South Africa's cricket schedule for 2026-27.
West Indies Tour of South Africa (January)
South Africa's 2026 international season will begin at home in January, when they host the West Indies for a three-match T20I series.
The series will start on January 27 in Paarl. The second T20I will be played on January 29 in Centurion, followed by the third and final match on February 1 in Johannesburg.
This home series will serve as early preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and provide South Africa with an opportunity to test combinations.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (February–March)
The biggest assignment of the year will be the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
South Africa have been placed in Group D and will play four group-stage matches. Their campaign will begin on February 9 against Canada in Ahmedabad. This will be followed by a match against Afghanistan on February 11, also in Ahmedabad.
The Proteas will then face strong competition against New Zealand on February 14. Their final group match will be against the United Arab Emirates on February 18 in Delhi.
South Africa Tour of New Zealand (March)
After the World Cup, South Africa will travel to New Zealand in March for a five-match T20I series.
The series will begin on March 15 in Mount Maunganui, followed by matches in Hamilton (March 17), Auckland (March 20), Wellington (March 22), and Christchurch (March 25).
Australia Tour of South Africa (September–October)
Later in the year, South Africa will host Australia for a high-profile bilateral series during September and October.
The tour will include three Test matches and three ODIs. This series is expected to be a major part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle and will test South Africa’s ability to maintain its dominance in red-ball cricket at home.
Bangladesh Tour of South Africa (November-December)
In November 2026, South Africa will host Bangladesh for a mixed-format series. The tour will consist of two Test matches and three ODIs (Dates and venues not announced).
England Tour of South Africa (December 2026 – January 2027)
The year will conclude with one of the most anticipated series as England tour South Africa in December, with the series continuing into early 2027 (Dates and venues not announced).
England will play three Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. This multi-format contest will be a major highlight of the season and a true test of South Africa’s depth across all formats.
