In what turned out to be a day filled with pride, nostalgia, and respect, Rohit Sharma was honoured with a stand named after him at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. But while the ceremony drew emotional moments from the family, it also featured a glimpse into Rohit’s off-field persona.
The unveiling of the ‘Rohit Sharma Stand’ was a proud occasion for the entire family. Rohit's parents, Gurunath and Poornima Sharma, his wife Ritika Sajdeh, and his brother Vishal Sharma were all present for the grand ceremony.
The family joined Rohit on stage during the official ceremony, where his parents and the Chief Minister pressed the button to unveil the stand.
The ceremony also saw the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) unveil other tributes, including the Sharad Pawar Stand, Ajit Wadekar Stand, and the MCA Office Lounge.
Rohit Sharma Shares Brotherly Banter
The evening, however, was not without a touch of humour. As Rohit Sharma and his family exited the stadium, a video surfaced showing Rohit playfully confronting his younger brother Vishal about a dent on his car.
In the short clip, Rohit is seen pointing to the damage, asking,
“Yeh kya hai? (What is this)?” To which Vishal replies, “Reverse.” Rohit shoots back with a chuckle, “Kiska? Tere se? (Whose? Yours?)”.
After this moment, Rohit quickly helped his mother to get into the car as the Sharma family moved out of the stadium. Watch the video:
