Spiritual guru Shri Devkinandan Thakur made a controversial claim stating that India suffered a painstaking defeat in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia due to their longstanding association with rising fantasy gaming firm 'Dream11'.

As Rohit Sharma & company continue to bore excruciating pain over their heartbreaking defeat, Thakur made a shocking assertion, insisting that if not for Team India's brand association with the popular company, they would've retained their winning streak past the Aussies in Ahmedabad.

In a speech, the clip of which has gone viral, the spiritual guru alleged that the players part of Rohit's team had carried a jinx into the summit clash and were bound to face the downfall since they indirectly promote betting via fantasy gaming apps.

Spiritual Guru Questions India's Dream 11 Association

Speaking to his followers, Thakur questioned Team India players' sustained association with fantasy gaming companies and insisted that the act of encouraging Indian youth to invest money in the lure of fantasy gaming prizes came back to haunt the cricketers.

"I don't know if I should say this, the World Cup was going on in India. India won 10 games on the straight but lost the final. I did a lot of dissection and self-analysis on this and felt that it happened because all of our players inspire today's youth to gamble money and that's why god punished them," Thakur claimed.

"They tell the youngsters, bet on Dream11, bet on Dream 11.. now take Dream11. They went only till 10 (wins), couldn't make it 11 on the bounce. They badly lost the 11th match (to Australia)," he added.

Notably, fantasy gaming apps have enjoyed a huge jump in the Indian market ever since the Supreme Court of India formally established it as a 'skill' and not a gambling or betting activity. Several Team India players promote these companies and their apps with 'Dream11' being the lead sponsor for the senior national side.
