As Diwali festivities light up homes across the nation, the spirit of celebration also swept through the cricketing fraternity. Amid the glow of diyas and bursts of laughter, players along with their loved ones are embracing the festival’s warmth and togetherness, offering glimpses of joy beyond the boundary ropes.

Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, much like everyone else, also embraced the spirit of Diwali, doing so with his girlfriend Sophie Shine.

Sophie Shine embraces Indian culture with Shikhar Dhawan

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and his Ireland-based girlfriend Sophie Shine seem to be celebrating Diwali together as a couple. On Monday, October 20, the two took to their Instagram accounts and shared a picture of themselves embracing the festive spirit.

In the caption, Shikhar Dhawan also extended his congratulations to everyone else celebrating Diwali, stating:

“Pyar aur roshni se bhari ye Diwali sabke jeevan mein khushiyan laaye!”

This is not the first time Sophie Shine has embraced Indian culture ever since linking up with boyfriend Shikhar Dhawan. A few weeks ago, Dhawan accompanied Sophie to Mahakal’s ‘Bhasma Aarti’ at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple. Seeking divine blessing from Lord Mahakal, pictures of the two attending the sacred ritual soon went viral across social media.

On a side note, Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international cricket last year in August. The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and two-time Asia Cup winner represented his nation in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20I matches. During his playing days, the legendary opener cemented his legacy as one of India’s greatest ever batters in ICC white-ball tournaments like World Cups and Champions Trophy.
