Abhishek Sharma’s spectacular 141-run knock for Sunrisers Hyderabad was more than just a bright spot in a disappointing season; it was a testament to a transformed mindset. The young batter's journey to that career-defining innings was fuelled by profound advice from two senior cricketers, Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh.

Their guidance on manifestation and goal-setting paved the way for a celebration that resonated deeply with the SRH faithful, revealing the mental preparation behind the explosive performance.

Abhishek reveals Dhawan’s lesson in manifestation

The story behind Abhishek taking a written note out of his pocket after his century traces back to a pivotal conversation with Shikhar Dhawan, who introduced him to the power of journaling and positive visualization.

“Shikhar Dhawan had told me that manifestation is important, just manifest that you have already done it. He invited me to his home to have this conversation. He made me start writing in a diary. One thing is visualizing that I will do it, and the other is to visualize that I am doing it. That I am the best player of India, I have won many matches for the team, he made me write this,” Abhishek said on ‘Breakfast with Champions’.

“I do journaling before every game in the morning. So instead of that, I thought to write a chit. I wrote “This one is for Orange Army”. I kept it in my pocket. When I got to my fifty, I did not remember I had it too. I kept playing and the moment I made a hundred and celebrated, I remembered it and took the chit out,” Abhishek said.

Yuvraj’s prophetic blueprint

Abhishek also disclosed how a camp at Yuvraj Singh’s home during a period of self-doubt redefined his entire career trajectory, setting his sights far beyond the IPL.

“I am very grateful. During the lockdown we would have camps at his place. Me, Shubman, Prabhsimran, Anmolpreet. Basically I needed it. We were going on a flight and I asked him if we could have a camp for a few days. He told yes right away. I was struggling a bit at that time, honestly. I was not consistent in the IPL and I was not even in the playing XI. Shubman was already playing for India,” Abhishek said.

Abhishek Sharma recalled a phase when he felt left behind as his peers were already making progress. He shared that during a lunch at Yuvraj's place, he was told directly that the training was not meant for state cricket, the IPL, or even just earning an India cap, but to prepare him to win matches for the country.

According to Sharma, Yuvraj assured him that this would happen within two to three years, and it was after that camp he realized his true goal was something much bigger.
