Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was the star performer in India’s 101-run victory against South Africa in the first T20I held at Cuttack. He credited his partner, Maheika Sharma, for being his support through tough times.

Hardik made a comeback in the Cuttack T20I after a long layoff from the injury he sustained during the Asia Cup 2025.

However, rustiness isn’t in Hardik’s dictionary. At 78/4, he smashed 59* off just 28 balls to guide India to a 175-run total.

After India won the T20I by 101 runs, Hardik Pandya fetched the Player of the Match award. He sat down for a special chat with the BCCI, where he recalled past struggles.

Pandya added that self-belief is very important to overcome any struggle in life. 

"You should be a rockstar. You come, perform for 10 minutes and the crowd should go berserk. That has been the biggest motivation for me. Life has always thrown a lot of lemons at me and I always thought I would make a lemonade. I always believe that if you don't believe in yourself, how would others believe you? The mindset was really about coming back stronger, bigger, better. Everytime I walk in, I just feel that the crowd is waiting. They've come for this moment to watch me bat," Hardik said.

Not only that, Hardik Pandya thanked his girlfriend, Maheika Sharma, for being a strong pillar of support during the injury setback. He mentioned how his life has changed for the better since she arrived.

"Because I've stood strong, I've done a lot of things with grace and that has helped me to be more confident, back myself and trust my skill set. Injuries tests you mentally and puts a lot of doubts. But a lot of credit goes to the loved ones. Special mention to my partner as well. She's been nothing but the best to me since she's entered my life. A lot of great things has happened since she has arrived," he added.

Notably, Hardik divorced his ex-wife, Natasa Stankovic, in 2024 after four years of marriage. The couple also welcomed a child, Agastya, in 2020. 

Pandya then began dating Maheika, who is a model and Instagram influencer. This is also the first time Hardik has confirmed his relationship with the internet personality. 

Hardik Pandya also bowled well in the first T20I

Apart from regaining form as a power hitter, Hardik Pandya also bowled two overs in first T20I, picking the important wicket of David Miller.

He conceded only 16 runs and looked in good touch. But unlike the Asia Cup, Hardik bowled after the powerplay and not with the new ball.

After the game, Hardik Pandya said that he is not fussy about his role. If the team needs him to bowl, he will do it, as bowling is not about personal preference.
