Ishan Kishan celebrating after double hundred [Source: @7hubman7ill/X.com]
On this day three years ago, December 10, 2022, Ishan Kishan, aka the pocket dynamo, etched his name into cricket history. The Indian opener smashed the fastest double-century in ODI history, tearing apart the Bangladesh attack in Chattogram.
Ishan Kishan’s blitzkrieg 210 came from just 131 deliveries, reaching the 200-run mark in a mere 126 balls. This shattered the previous record held by Chris Gayle. Kishan’s innings, studded with 24 fours and 10 sixes, powered India to a massive total of 409 for 8.
Incidentally, Kishan’s knock was born from opportunity. Kishan was only playing because the regular captain, Rohit Sharma, was injured. He seized his chance while forging a 290-run partnership with Virat Kohli, who scored his first ODI century in over three years.
Kishan dominated from the start. He punished width outside off-stump and powerfully pulled anything short. After reaching his maiden ODI hundred in 85 balls, he accelerated uncontrollably, needing only 41 more balls to move from 100 to 200.
The Kishan power that almost surpassed Rohit Sharma
At various points, he looked likely to surpass Rohit Sharma’s all-time record score of 264. He was finally dismissed in the 36th over, caught superbly in the deep by Litton Das. “I was in the zone to get 300, but unfortunately I didn't,” Kishan would later say.

Nevertheless, his double ton was celebrated with a short Bhangra by Virat Kohli at the crease as the pocket dynamo kept mesmerising with his power.
Notably, his record-breaking effort set up a commanding 227-run victory for India, denying Bangladesh a series whitewash. Just a year-and-a-half after his debut in ODIs, Ishan Kishan announced his wrath, his tempo in cricket, which unfortunately didn’t last long after a selection debacle sidelined him from the national setup.
