The bat used by MS Dhoni at the 2011 World Cup has turned out to be the most expensive one in cricket history. Using this bat, the former captain smoked 91* in the match, including the winning six which ended Team India’s 28-year World Cup trophy drought.

The same bat was recently put up at an auction event, where it was sold for an unreal price.

Dhoni’s World Cup winning Warhammer goes big at auction

MS Dhoni led Team India to their second-ever ODI World Cup trophy during the 2011 edition of the tournament at home. The cricketer was even adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ in the final for coming up clutch in a tense run-chase.

The Indian legend brandished his bat at Sri Lankan bowlers in the title clash throughout his 79-ball stay at the crease to smoke an unbeaten 91. As it turns out, the blade he used in the game has entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most expensive bat ever.

It recently went up for auction at a charity event called ‘East Meets West’, where the bat was sold for over 100,000 pounds (₹83 lakh). According to a report from MensXP, prominent Indian financial services firm RK Global Shares and Securities LTD acquired the match-winning blade by winning the auction.

MS Dhoni announced his international retirement in 2020, a year after making his final appearance for the Indian team.

The legendary wicketkeeper-batter also led the ‘Men in Blue’ to 2007 T20 World Cup win early in his captaincy career. He remains the only captain in history to hold each of the three ICC limited-overs trophy at his disposal, with the third being his Champions Trophy win in 2013.
