Australia's PCT drops after MCG Test loss [Source: AFP]
Australia suffered a setback in the fourth Test of the Ashes 2025-26, losing the Boxing Day clash against England. Despite the defeat, they remain at the top of the WTC points table, though their unbeaten run in the current World Test Championship cycle finally ended after eight consecutive victories.
England’s struggles Down Under had deepened after three straight Ashes losses, but the Boxing Day triumph marked a turning point. The historic win ended their losing streak in Australia and helped England register only their third victory of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
England win big but Australia stay top of WTC points table
In a remarkably short Boxing Day Test, Australia suffered their first home defeat to England since 2011. After England’s bowlers ran through the hosts for 132 on day two, the tone of the match shifted dramatically.
Chasing 175 for victory, England showed composure and intent to clinch their first Test win in Australia in 15 years, sealing a memorable four-wicket triumph and scripting a historic Boxing Day comeback in Ashes 2025-26. As a result, Australia's PCT dropped from 100 to 85.71; however, they retained the number one spot in the WTC points table.

New Zealand have climbed to second place in the WTC points table following their victory over the West Indies. Two wins from three Tests have given them 28 points and a strong 77.78 percentage, keeping them well in contention for the WTC final early in the cycle.
South Africa are placed third in the WTC points table, with three wins from four Tests. Despite one defeat, their 75 percent points tally keeps them solidly in the race. Sri Lanka is next in fourth position in the WTC points table, unbeaten with one win and one draw, maintaining a 66.67 percentage from limited matches.
Pakistan sit fifth, having played just two Tests so far. One win and one loss leave them on an even 50 percent in the WTC points table.
India are sixth, with four wins, four losses and one draw from nine matches, dragging their points percentage down to just over 48, highlighting their inconsistency and making a spot in the WTC final look increasingly slim.
England's struggle continues in WTC points table despite MCG win
England continues to be at seventh in the WTC points table even after a historic win against Australia at the MCG. With three victories from nine Tests, their points percentage stands at 35.18 now, leaving little room for error going forward.
At the bottom of the WTC points table, Bangladesh, placed eighth, continues to struggle without a win. The West Indies remain winless even after eight Tests, stuck at the foot of the WTC points table with points and percentage both below five.
