Virat Kohli Fan Faces Arrest For Breaching Security To Meet His Idol In RCB vs KKR IPL 2025 Match

In a significant development, the fan who breached security during RCB vs KKR IPL 2025 opening match to meet his idol Virat Kohli, has been arrested by Kolkata police under IPC section 329. Notably, the fan breached the security when Virat was batting and reached his fifty in the second innings of the match.

Notably, Virat had a day to remember as he got the Eden Gardens grooving with his power hitting. Virat scored 59 (36), and this was when the fan came in running and bowed down to his idol in awe and respect. He also touched Kohli's feet before the security officials escorted him out of the ground. 

What Punishment Will Virat's Fan Serve After Breaching Security?

However, the move has now proved costly for the fan as he has been arrested under section 329. What is Section 329, and what punishment will the fan serve after his act? 

According to several reports, it looks like there has been an error while reporting as Section 329 deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt for the purpose of extorting property or constraining someone to do something illegal or facilitating a crime, punishable by life imprisonment or imprisonment up to 10 years, along with a fine, which makes no point in Kohli's fan case.

However, for the unversed, it is worth noting that the fan has been booked under Section 329 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), effective July 2024. This law covers criminal trespass—entering property to commit an offense—with penalties up to 3 months jail or a 5,000-rupee fine. It’s a standard response to unauthorized field entry, though the new BNS framework might confuse some fans.

Well it is not the first time that a fan has breached security to meet his idol. Previously several fans have crossed the fence and came down running down the pitch to meet Virat Kohli.
