Bollywood star Anushka Sharma may soon make her long-awaited return to the big screen with Chakda Xpress, a biopic based on legendary Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. The film, which wrapped up shooting in 2022, was put on hold following a fallout between Netflix and the production house Clean Slate Filmz.

However, after the Indian women’s cricket team’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup victory, the movie's makers are now eager to bring the project back.

Directed by Prosit Roy, Chakda Xpress tells the inspiring story of Jhulan Goswami, one of the fastest female bowlers in cricket history. The former ace pacer has played 204 ODIs for India, taking 255 wickets at an average of 22.04 and an economy of 3.37.

Jhulan Goswami biopic may finally release

According to a report by Mid-Day, the producers have written to senior Netflix executives urging them to reconsider the film’s release. A source close to the team said -

“We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see if they can rise above the conflict so that the film can see the light of day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience.”

The film’s production was reportedly delayed due to budget overruns and creative differences. The Netflix is reportedly holding internal discussions about whether to move forward with the release after some additional post-production work.

“The production house went over budget, and the streaming platform wasn’t happy with how the project was shaping up. But it’s still a solid film,” an insider told Mid-Day.

It is important to mention that the release of Chakda Xpress has once again gained limelight after India's much-awaited World Cup victory against South Africa by 52 runs in the final held in Navi Mumbai on November 2.

If released, Chakda Xpress will mark Anushka Sharma’s acting comeback after seven years. She was last seen in Zero (2018) alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.
