ICC chairman Jay Shah was honoured with the ‘Indian of the Year’ award by CNBC for his outstanding achievement as a cricket administrator. He received the award in the presence of Indian women cricketers and many other celebrities.

Shah served as BCCI secretary from October 2019 to November 2024 before he was elected as ICC chairman.

In his long tenure with the BCCI, Jay Shah made several groundbreaking decisions, especially for women’s cricket.

Jay Shah honoured for his contribution as BCCI secretary

As BCCI secretary, Jay Shah launched the Women's Premier League (WPL) and confirmed equal pay for women international cricketers.

After India won the Women’s World Cup 2025, Shah was credited with his sincere efforts towards the growth of women’s cricket.

Not only that, Shah built the BCCI Centre of Excellence with multiple pitches that replicate overseas conditions so that the men's team can practise for foreign tours.

Given his tireless efforts to uplift Indian cricket over the years, Jay Shah was awarded the Indian of the Year trophy at the CNBC awards 2025.

“Harman is here, and so are Jhulan Di and Mithali, and I would like to dedicate this award to all of you. We strengthened the domestic cricket structure, implemented pay parity, launched the WPL, and successfully completed a ₹50,000 crore media rights deal — all without any controversy. But my two favourite decisions remain the implementation of pay parity and the launch of the WPL. You have recently seen the results of these efforts," Shah said in his acceptance speech.

Apart from this, Shah also signed a five-year broadcast deal for IPL for a whopping price of ₹48,390.

He ensured that the BCCI remains the richest and most powerful cricket organisation across the globe. While Jay Shah has now moved to the ICC, his contributions will always be remembered for the good.

Jay Shah’s career as an administrator

Interestingly, Jay Shah started his cricket-administration journey in 2009 at the grassroots level with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), working via the Central Board of Cricket, Ahmedabad (CBCA).

In September 2013, he became the joint secretary of GCA. During this period, he was involved in the development of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, now the largest cricket stadium in the world.

In 2015, Shah joined the BCCI as a member of its finance and marketing committees. Then, in October 2019, at just 31 years old, he was elected as the youngest-ever Honorary Secretary of BCCI, and the rest is history.
