When you think of Australian cricketer, Ellyse Perry, you think of a cricketing legend, a game-changer and an athlete who defies the odds. But what you don’t expect is for the Aussie superstar to be talking about Kumbh Mela, one of India’s grandest spiritual gatherings.
Ellyse Perry Amazed By Kumbh Mela
Recently, on the RCB Podcast with Mayanti Langer, Ellyse Perry opened up about her fascination with the massive festival that happens once every 144 years. The cricketing powerhouse admitted she had never even heard of it before but after learning about its significance in Indian culture and religion, she was left in awe.
"It has been happening - I have never even heard of it back home but it's an amazing event that happens once every 144 years - kind of revolves around the religion & culture and it's fascinating - draws a lot of people, which makes you really grateful," Perry shared.
While Perry has seen stadiums packed to the rafters in World Cup finals and Ashes battles, the sheer scale of Kumbh Mela left her speechless.
Furthermore, Perry also took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about her first-ever visit to India. She recalled witnessing the very first IPL match back in 2008, when Brendon McCullum set the stage on fire with a mind-boggling 158 for Kolkata Knight Riders. The 34-year-old all-rounder also touched upon the Aussie cricketing mentality.
Ellyse Perry Lighting Up WPL 2025 With Bat In Hand
When it comes to on-field dominance, Perry has been batting like a dream in WPL 2025. Despite RCB Women's abysmal campaign, Perry has stood apart as their biggest performer as she has smashed a stunning 295 runs in just 6 matches at an astonishing average of 98.33 and a strike rate of 149.74. She is currently the second-highest run-getter in WPL 2025.
However, her heroics haven’t been enough as RCB has managed just two wins in six games. Sitting at fourth in the WPL points table, the Smriti Mandhana led side now finds themselves in a must-win situation.
With just two matches left, RCB W will need to dig deep and deliver under pressure if they hope to make it to the playoffs.
