Iyer to be rewarded by BCCI [Source: AP Photo]
Last year, Shreyas Iyer was removed from BCCI's central contract list as the board took a tough stance on the player skipping domestic matches. Iyer, alongside Ishan Kishan were axed from the contract, but now it seems the board is willing to give the star Indian batter another chance ahead of their central contract announcement.
As per a report by TOI, the star batter who has performed exceedingly well in the ongoing Champions Trophy is likely to be rewarded by the board and he will get back his contract, which he lost last year.
The report stated that a strong performance in the event has propelled BCCI to take this massive decision related to Shreyas Iyer.
Iyer's brilliant Champions Trophy campaign so far
Iyer started with just 15 runs against Bangladesh, but the number 4 batter roared back with a scintillating fifty against arch-rivals Pakistan.
His best knock came against New Zealand in the final group stage match where he rescued India from a collapse and scored a match-winning 79. Again, in a tricky chase Vs Australia in the semis, Iyer played a great supporting role to Virat Kohli and slammed a gritty 45 runs as India reached the finale.
Other notable changes in the contract list
The contracts of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also be reviewed after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy. Both the stars are in Grade A+ and it is usually given to top performers across formats.
However, both Rohit and Kohli retired from T20Is last year and have not delivered the goods in Tests and as a result, their contract is likely to be revised as well.
