Smriti Mandhana has finally made her first public appearance since the cancellation of her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal. Speaking at the Amazon Sambhav Summit, the 29-year-old star batter opened up about how cricket continues to anchor her life, especially when she faces personal challenges off the field.
Mandhana’s first statement after calling off wedding
Mandhana, known for her calm personality, said she always turns to her batting whenever life becomes difficult. India's vice-captain also spoke honestly about her approach to preparation and how she deals with pressure and expectations.
“I have always been a very simple person, not complicating my life by overthinking anything. One thing I believe is that if you put a lot of work in behind the scenes, because what happens on the ground, everyone looks at and judges, but what I judge myself or the team on is the work we put in behind the scenes. I really pride myself on doing that work day in, day out. Even if I’m feeling good or bad about things, whatever it is, I think if you put in that work, when you go out to bat, you’re just very confident about what’s going to happen,” Smriti said during the event.
By speaking openly about her passion for cricket and her mental approach to the game, Smriti Mandhana has sent a clear message that her focus is firmly back on cricket.
“I don’t think I love anything more than cricket. Wearing that Indian jersey is what motivates us. You set aside all your problems, and that thought alone helps you focus on life. As a kid, the madness for batting was always there. No one understood it, but in my mind, I always wanted to be called a world champion,” Mandhana added.
First public appearance after wedding cancellation
Her appearance at the event came weeks after she publicly confirmed that her wedding to Palash Muchhal had been called off. She had earlier been seen stepping out with her brother, but avoided any interaction with the media and fans.
Smriti and Palash were scheduled to marry on November 23, but the ceremony was postponed first due to health issues in both families. With no new date announced, speculation intensified online. On December 7, Mandhana issued an Instagram statement confirming that the wedding has been cancelled and requested everyone to respect the privacy of both families.
