Yashasvi Jaiswal has quickly established himself as an all-format player for India. While he saw early success in Tests and T20Is, he had yet to prove his mettle in the ODI format. But that changed with his maiden century in the longer white-ball format in the last match of the recently concluded series against South Africa.

However, while his position in the red-ball team is a certainty, his spot in the white-ball formats is not always confirmed. One of the most talented young batters of the next generation, Jaiswal, has now expressed his interest in representing India in the T20 World Cup.

"My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time," Jaiswal said on Agenda AajTak.

Jaiswal express his desire to lead India

The 23-year-old has also expressed his interest in leading the Indian team in the future. Currently, Shubman Gill leads the ODI and Test teams, while Suryakumar Yadav is the T20I skipper for the Men in Blue.

"Yes, if I get a chance, I would like to lead India," added Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped from the T20I squad for the recent Asia Cup in favour of Gill, who was also named the team’s vice captain. It appears that the Rajasthan Royals batter is not in the management’s plan for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India.

Gill and Abhishek Sharma are the main openers for the team, while Sanju Samson is also waiting in the wings for a spot in the playing XI. It remains to be seen if Jaiswal makes it to India’s squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup. Notably, he was a part of the squad for the 2024 edition but did not get to play a game.
