Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has made a surprising revelation about why he never became the owner of an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, even though he was offered the chance when the tournament first began in 2008.

The IPL, launched in 2008, has since grown into the biggest cricket league in the world, attracting top players and celebrities.

During its inauguration, several celebrities and businessmen came forward to buy franchises. While Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla bought KKR, Preity Zinta became a co-owner of the Punjab Kings.

Salman Khan Opens Up On Plans Of Buying An IPL Team

During a recent event in Mumbai, 59-year-old actor Salman Khan was asked if he ever considered joining the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Preity Zinta, who all co-own IPL teams.

Salman first responded with his trademark humour, saying, "IPL ke liye too old ho gaye hum" (I am too old to buy an IPL team now).

But then Salman revealed that the opportunity had indeed come his way at the start of the IPL’s journey. "The IPL offer was made earlier, but I didn’t accept it," he admitted. He added that he has no regrets about his decision, saying, “It’s not like I regret it. I’m happy."

While Salman may have passed on owning a team, he continues to be one of Bollywood’s biggest stars. His last film, Sikandar, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, was a major talking point earlier this year. He is currently busy shooting for Battle of Galwan, a film based on the 2020 India-China Galwan Valley conflict.

Salman Bought A Team In ISPL

While IPL may not be his territory, Salman Khan did become the owner of the New Delhi franchise in the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL), a T10 tennis ball cricket tournament. The ISPL has already attracted several Bollywood stars, including Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ram Charan, and Amitabh Bachchan.

The league’s second season concluded earlier this year, with Bachchan’s Majhi Mumbai clinching the title by defeating Akshay Kumar’s Srinagar Ke Veer in a thrilling final.
