The past few days have been extremely difficult for England cricket star Jos Buttler. His father, John Butler, passed away suddenly last week, but even in this heartbreaking time, Buttler made a decision of strength to play The Hundred.

On August 9, just days after losing his father, Buttler walked out to play for Manchester Originals against Birmingham Phoenix. This was his first match after the tragedy. Sadly, he could not score any runs, getting out for a duck after facing just four balls.

Jos Buttler Remembers Late Father John

After the match, Jos Buttler took to Instagram to share an emotional message for his late father. His simple yet powerful words read: "Rest in peace, Dad. "Thank you for everything you have done for me."

The message touched the hearts of fans all over the world, who flooded social media with condolences and messages of support.

That being said, John sadly passed away last week on Wednesday, August 6. On that very same day, Jos Buttler played against Southern Brave, scoring 22 runs.

Most players might have chosen to take a break in such a situation, but Buttler chose to honour his father’s memory by doing what he loved most, playing cricket.

In a touching gesture, all Manchester Originals players wore black armbands d throughout the game in memory of John Buttler. The powerful tribute reflected the unity of the team and their support for their teammate in one of the most difficult times of his life.

Buttler’s Form Takes A Hit In The Hundred

During a tough moment in his life, Jos Buttler has chosen to adhere to his commitment to Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2025. However, his form has taken a huge hit. In two games, he has scored 22 and 0 while batting at no.3. Notably, Buttler was replaced as captain by Phil Salt, who also took over his opening spot along with Matthew Hurst.
