Bengal CM vows to honour World Cup winner Richa Ghosh with a cricket stadium

Laurels and accolades seem to keep piling up for India’s blistering wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh. After starring in India’s historic 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup win earlier this month, the cricketer was felicitated by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation as well as by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for her tournament heroics.

Moreover, she was also appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state police by the Bengal government, and was handed a Banga Bhushan medal by state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Now, in a major development, the Bengal CM has vowed to name a cricket stadium after Richa Ghosh in Darjeeling.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that a new cricket stadium in Darjeeling will be named after India Women’s wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh. The veteran politician confirmed the same during a felicitation event held in honour of the 22-year-old.

Mamata Banerjee said that while the West Bengal government has already honoured Richa Ghosh, she wants “to do more” for the cricketer. Banerjee claimed that she has already asked the major to build a cricket stadium in Darjeeling. The politician added:

“It should be named the Richa Cricket Stadium so that people remember her performance.”

It is worth noting that CAB, along with Mamata Banerjee also gifted Ghosh a gold-plated bat and ball, signed by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and legendary women’s fast bowler Jhulan Goswami.

Richa Ghosh unleashed cracking cameos in both, the semifinal and the final of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup against Australia and South Africa respectively. Moreover, in an earlier league game against South Africa, the belligerent middle-order batter smeared 94 runs from just 77 balls.

Overall, Richa Ghosh concluded the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup with 235 runs from eight innings at a strike rate of 133.52, and with a winner’s medal.
