The much-hyped India vs Pakistan Asia Cup fixture might have fans buzzing but not everyone is cheering. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has come out swinging, not against a rival party but against the Government of India (GoI) and the BCCI for putting “profit before principle” by allowing the September 14 face-off to go ahead despite recent border tensions.
Priyanka Chaturvedi Demands Boycott of Indo-Pak Asia Cup Clash
A day after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) confirmed the tournament schedule, locking in India vs Pakistan on September 14 with two more potential rematches in the Super Four and Final, Chaturvedi took to X to voice her outrage.
“Blockbuster Fixture: India vs Pakistan scheduled for 14 September, 2025 with potential rematches during Super Four and Final” When money is more important than the blood of our fellow Indians and our men in uniform. Shame on GoI for being a hypocrite on Operation Sindoor. And dear BCCI- this is not just blood money that you’ll seek to earn but also cursed money,” she wrote.
Chaturvedi was referring to India’s strong military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which led to Operation Sindoor on May 7 targeting terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.
Not Just A Post But A Call To Boycott
Chaturvedi didn’t stop at voicing disappointment as she went for the jugular. In another tweet, she directly called for action against those looking to cash in on the match.
“Name and Shame every sponsor, broadcaster, streaming app that attempts to make money out of this India-Pak match, because clearly BCCI and GoI are shamelessly going ahead with this match, leaves us Indian citizens to make our voices loud and clear,” she wrote.
She didn’t mince words while tagging the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (@MIB_India) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (@GoI_MeitY) either.
“I ask the @MIB_India and @GoI_MeitY to ban all the streaming apps and broadcast channels that show the India/Pak match live. Or will they buckle too?” she added.
More Voices Join The Chorus
Chaturvedi’s sentiment wasn’t isolated. Fellow Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also criticised the move to go ahead with the high-profile match in a tweet, echoing the party’s hard stance on national security matters.
Chaturvedi, notably, has been part of diplomatic efforts to expose Pakistan’s terror links internationally. She was among the seven-member all-party delegation that travelled to 30 countries and the European Union HQ in Brussels to build global pressure on Pakistan.
Ceasefire Or Not, Tensions Still Simmer
India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10 following a request from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations but Chaturvedi insists that cricketing ties shouldn’t resume while memories of Poonch and Pahalgam are still raw.
Her remarks also pointed to the irony of the ACC being currently chaired by Pakistan’s interior minister and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, further deepening her distrust over the match’s symbolic message.
