For those unaware, KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty got married on January 23, 2023, after knowing each other since 2019 through a mutual friend. On March 24, 2025, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Evaarah.

How KL Rahul saved India’s sinking ship
KL Rahul remained unbeaten as he anchored a sinking Indian innings. He walked in at No. 5 after the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer and briefly partnered Virat Kohli for three runs before Kohli was dismissed by Kristian Clarke.
Ravindra Jadeja then joined Rahul, and the duo added a valiant 73-run stand. Rahul later stitched a 57-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy. While wickets kept falling at the other end, Rahul held his ground and finished with 112 runs, which included 11 boundaries and one six.
His heroics pushed India past the 250-run mark, as they posted 284 runs at the end of 50 overs, setting New Zealand a challenging chase.
KL fires salvo irrespective of batting position
Interestingly, KL Rahul’s batting position in ODIs has often been a topic of debate. He has played as an opener and at No. 5 most frequently, with notably stronger numbers at No. 5.
He has also had stints at Nos. 3, 4, and 6, recording fairly similar averages across positions. Batting at No. 5, Rahul has featured in 32 matches, scoring two centuries and 10 half-centuries while accumulating 1,365 runs at an impressive average of 59.35.
As an opener, he averages 43.57 from 23 matches, while his second-best average comes at No. 4, where he has scored 558 runs in 13 matches at an average of 55.80.
Overall, his numbers clearly underline that KL Rahul remains a reliable saviour for India, capable of rescuing the team from difficult situations, especially when the innings is on the brink.
