In the ongoing 2nd ODI between India and New Zealand at the Saurashtra cricket ground, the hosts are in deep trouble as star batter Virat Kohli returned to the pavilion after a rare failure in the fifty-over format. Notably, Virat is in red-hot form as the right-handed batter scored six consecutive fifty-plus scores for India before the 2nd ODI.
Eyes were on Virat to score big, but in a rare event, the 37-year-old amassed just 23 (29), which featured a couple of fours. Notably, on the 3rd ball of the 24th over, a Kristian Clarke delivery kept low, and eventually, an inside edge saw the furniture ruptured.

Virat reminds fans of 2023 World Cup final
With the dismissal, the fans were quickly reminded of 2023 ODI World Cup final between India and Australia. Notably, a billion hearts broke on November 19 when Virat scored a gritty fifty but played on when Pat Cummins came into attack.
It is not a regular sight on a cricket field when Virat Kohli play a false shot and the ball ends up rattling his furniture. Nonetheless, talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, India are 142/4 after 30 overs.
Virat Kohli fails in his first innings since reclaiming No.1 ODI ranking spot
It is a day to rejoice for Virat Kohli fans as the right-handed batter reclaimed the No.1 ODI ranking spot for the first time in four years. Virat Kohli climbed from second place to the top spot with a rating of 785. At the same time, Rohit Sharma slipped down two places and is now ranked third with a rating of 775.
As mentioned above, Virat Kohli is in red-hot form and slammed a 93-run innings in the first ODI. Further, during the home ODIs against South Africa, Kohli slammed two centuries and an unbeaten 65 (45) in the 3rd match.
Further, Kohli played domestic cricket in between and slammed a century for Delhi in Vijay Hazare Trophy as well.
Kohli fails to end the fifty-plus score curse
Prior to the 2nd ODI, Kohli had slammed five fifty-plus scores and the 37-year-old has achieved the same feat on previous four occassions. This time around, Virat had the chance to end his five-consecutive fifty curse, but the star India batter failed to do so.
If Virat would have had scored another fifty-plus score, the 37-year-old would have left Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane behind to be the sole India star to six-consecutive fifties.
