The Indian Premier League (IPL) provided a perfect platform for India's two biggest industries — Cricket and Entertainment — to merge and create a monstrous entity, which the cash-rich tournament has become in 2023.

Several Bollywood superstars were involved in various capacities in IPL, including Akshay Kumar, who was the brand ambassador of the Delhi Daredevils, now renamed Delhi Capitals.  Kumar signed for a three-year term in starting 2008 and was seen doing daredevil stunts at Feroz Shah Stadium in the first edition.

However, with the franchise running in red for the inaugural season, Kumar's contract was under the scanner.

Former BCCI GM, Amrit Mathur and then DD staff member has now revealed an episode regarding Kumar, who willingly canceled his contract as the club struggled to stay afloat, despite a no exit clause being stated in the contract.

Mathur, in his book' 'Pitchside: My Life in Indian Cricket' explained that the star actor wasted no time in taking such a drastic decision back in 2009.

Here's what Mathur recalled Kumar saying

"No problem ji, If it is not working, let's close it. Isko khatam kar dete hain, Koi baat nahi, mai lawyer ko bol duga (Let's end this. No worries, I will inform the lawyer),

Even after so many years I am surprised that Akshay waived off such a large amount of money. Just like that -- snap decision when he could have easily thrown the contract at us.

Speaking of Kumar, the Delhi-born after a string of flops, gave a rare Bollywood hit in 2023, named Oh My God! 2 or OMG 2 this month.
