The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a tough one for the Delhi Capitals, who could manage only five wins out of a total of 14 matches and finished in the second-to-last spot on the points table.

They experienced a dismal start, losing their first five matches in a row, but managed to make a comeback during the mid-season. However, they couldn't maintain the momentum and continued to suffer defeats in the latter half of the tournament.

It wasn't just the losses, but also the wide margin of defeats, mismanagement, and underutilization of players that proved costly for them. Later, there were rumours that after a woeful season, the Capitals were mulling over parting company with head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly.

However, the franchise owner Parth Jindal has now revealed that Delhi Capitals had no intentions of replacing Ponting, and former Indian captain from their roles and they will persist with them even in the upcoming season. Here’s what he wrote in one of his recent tweets:

“Preparations for next year's IPL are underway here at Delhi Capitals, alongside Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting. We assure the fans that Kiran (Kumar Grandhi) and I are working hard to get back to where we want this franchise to be and that is right at the very top.”

After a successful stretch of reaching the playoffs in three back-to-back seasons from 2019 to 2021, which featured a memorable run to the final in 2020 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi Capitals have missed out on a top-four finish in the past two seasons.

Delhi Capitals played the latest season of the cash-rich league without their regular captain Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out of the season due to the multiple injuries he sustained in a car crash in December last year. David Warner led the team in his absence.
